LPL's Strategic Asset Management (SAM) and Strategic Asset Management II (SAM II) Accounts
Introduced in 1991, SAM and SAM II are adviser-driven, fee-based asset management platforms offered through Linsco/Private Ledger (LPL), a registered investment adviser. SAM is identical to SAM II with one important distinction – in SAM, investors pay all transaction charges; in SAM II, the adviser pays for the transaction charges.

Through these accounts we work with our clients to develop and manage personalized investment portfolios utilizing a long-term asset allocation strategy. LPL provides the research support. Utilizing our strategic asset allocation, we provide model portfolio allocations and mutual fund
and equity recommendations to best manage our clients’ assets according to their risk tolerance.

The SAM and SAM II platform provides us with access to over 4,600 no-load/load-waived mutual funds*, stocks, bonds, conservative option strategies, UITs and a no-load, multi-manager variable annuity. All of these assets – as well as certain investments that our clients may have previously purchased – are consolidated onto a quarterly performance report, making it easy for our clients to monitor their customized portfolios.

As LPL advisors, rather than receiving commissions, both programs compensate us through an annual advisory fee that is based on each account's value. If the value increases, our compensation increases as well. This method of compensation puts you the clients on the same side of the table, working toward a common goal – to grow the value of the account. For this fee, we provide investment advisory services, including asset allocation and investment recommendations, quarterly account reviews and consolidated reporting.

SAM and SAM II have identical features with the exception of transaction charges. SAM II is designed for consultants who don't want to charge their clients for making transactions.
